- We shall Endeavor to build our Character
- We shall be faithful in our Study
- We shall Cultivate Courage and Tenacity
- We shall attach great importance to Etiquette
- We shall be weary of Foolishness.
Tae Kwon Do Tenets
- Courtesy (look for the meaning of each tenet)
- Integrity
- Perseverance
- Self-Control
- Indomitable Spirit
At Elite Tae Kwon Do, we live by the above precepts. Memorize them, think about them, and follow them -- even if we do not yet fully understand them.
Time and hard work yield understanding. By following the above precepts you will come to an understanding of yourself and others, and this will make you not only a better martial artist but a better person as well. Our founding master asserted that "the ultimate aim of the art of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of character of its participants."
Our own teacher Jean Theodat, reflecting upon his experience in the martial arts, has this insight on how understanding is gained in the world of martial arts; "If you are driven to be good in the martial arts, you will be guided without knowing you are guided. Only later will you find out how you have been guided and what you have gone through and learned. You may arrive at a high level of understanding without initially knowing how you got there." All you need to do is keep trying one day you will say to yourself, amazing! I really done it.
