3. Students must bow to the instructor when entering the training hall.

4. Students of lower belt must bow to students of higher belt.

5. Students must always answer the instructor: "Yes, Sir! or No Sir."

6. Students must be on time for class.

7. No shoes are to be worn in class (except Tae Kwon Do shoes)

8. Students must have a clean uniform and belt on before lining up for class.

9. Students with questions must ask senior students before addressing the instructor

10. Students are expected to treat each other with respect at all times, and encourage each other to succeed. Teasing and taunting will not be tolerated

11. Students are responsible for taking care of their school, and respecting the place where they train. This means making sure leaving nothing behind when you are finished training, and returning all equipment to the place from where it was borrowed. Elite Tae Kwon Do is not responsible for any items left behind.

12. Unless an instructor gives permission, students must only attend the classes designated to their age level. It is not fair to accommodate to younger, less experienced students in a class meant for those who are more advanced.

13. No food or drink is allowed in the training hall. Students will be given short break during class to get water. Chewing gum is not allowed during training.

14. The Tae Kwon Do uniform should be worn with pride. Wrinkles and stains should be taken care of before the uniform is worn again. During class, a belt must be worn at all times. Should it come loose, the student is expected to re-tie it or ask an instructor for help.

Student Etiquette

Karate/Tae Kwon Do begins and ends with courtesy. Here are some additional rules of the training hall and a few helpful explanations:

Address your instructors as SABUMNIM which means Teacher. In Korea or Japan, it is an honorary title given to martial artists and those in other professions who have passed rigorous qualifying examinations. At Elite Tae Kwon Do, Sabumnim applies to anyone acting in the capacity of instructor. (We earned the title Master but we would rather be called Mr. or Sabumnim)

Bowing in martial arts is equivalent to the Western custom of shaking hands. It shows respect for others as well as for you. At Elite Tae Kwon Do, the act of bowing represents three aspects of behavior we expect at all times from and among our students: respect, self-control and courtesy.

Prior to training session, the flag is saluted by placing the right hand over the heart. After saluting the flag, the students must greet the master.

During the training session, the student's behavior should be very controlled and should show a high level of courtesy. It is important for the students to use discretion when speaking during the training session. The students should always use words implying respect and honor when speaking to superiors. The superiors do not have to be so careful in their selection of words when speaking to students of lesser rank.

While students are wearing the Tae Kwon Do uniform, the symbol of rank within the system takes precedence over respect for elders, however, when the uniform is not worn, respect for age take precedence.

Cleanliness

As a martial art is a contact sport, you may well imagine how unpleasant it is to work with someone in a dirty uniform. Throw your uniform not your belt into the washing machine after one or two wearing.

Personal hygiene is also of great importance. A student with dirty or smelly feet and or unpleasant body odor will be pulled a side for conference. Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed to avoid hurting other students and all jewelry removed before class.

Our job is to help the students and parents not to embarrass anyone. (Students are not allowed to make comments about other students but encourage speaking to the instructor after class about any hygiene problem).
